On March 18th 2024, Institute of Virology, Vaccines and Sera „Torlak“ hosted Dr Aleksandar Popović, Senior Director of Veterinary Professional Services at Charles River Laboratories based in UK, at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering. Dr Aleksandar Popović held Interactive seminar / workshop for veterinarians and other professionals working with Laboratory Animals. The workshop is supported by the SAIGE project.
Workshop was attended by 50 veterinarians and researchers from 4 faculties of Belgrade University, 7 biomedical research institutes, and Medicines and Medical devices Agency of Serbia.
The subjects that were addressed included:
- Biology and reproductive physiology of laboratory mice and rats, breeding paradigms and a brief overview of key rodent models in research.
- Biosecurity within the context of operating Animal facility breeding and experimental units and mitigation strategies.
- What to do in case of contamination, diagnostics, conducting RCA (root cause analysis) and CAPA (corrective and preventive actions) investigations, decontamination.
- Rodent pathogens and common clinical and experimentally induced conditions- Interactive session with clinical cases
