Today, the foundation stone was laid for the new diagnostic-research facility with a laboratory of the third biological safety level (BSL-3), within the Institute of Virology, Vaccines and Sera “Torlak”. The construction is part of the project “Urgent Response of the Republic of Serbia to COVID-19”, financed by the World Bank, with the support of the Ministry of Health and the Government of the Republic of Serbia. The new facility with a total area of 4,000 square meters will include all current diagnostic laboratories of “Torlak” Institute, along with a new BSL-3 laboratory with an area of 150 square meters. The new facility will be available to other institutions and will enable the Republic of Serbia to be independent in the fight against infectious diseases.
In addition to the Minister of Health Danica Grujičić, the Mayor of the Provisional Authority of Belgrade Aleksandar Šapić, the Minister of Science and Technological Development Jelena Begović, the Minister of Defense Miloš Vučević and other dignitaries attended the ceremony.
