Testing for immunological causes of infertility

At the Laboratory for Immunological and Allergological Diagnostics at the Institute of Virology, Vaccines, and Sera “Torlak,” it is possible to perform analyses related to investigating the immunological causes of infertility.

  • ASA test (antisperm antibodies): тhe determination of antisperm antibodies is performed using both direct and indirect MAR (mixed antiglobulin reaction) methods.

  • Determining the degree of DNA fragmentation in spermatozoa is done using HALOSPERM: Determining the degree of DNA fragmentation in spermatozoa is done using the Sperm Chromatin Dispersion (SCD) method.

Patient Preparation:

Both partners need to come in for testing. Abstinence from sexual intercourse for three days is required for sperm sample collection. Having a light breakfast is recommended for venous blood sampling.

Both partners undergo venous blood sample collection, and the male partner provides a sperm sample. The sperm sample is collected at the Institute. If you are coming from Belgrade, you can bring the sample from home (in a sterile urine container, collected the morning before coming to testing). As part of this test, a bacteriological examination of sperm is also performed (sperm culture and antibiogram).

For patients residing within the city of Belgrade, the ASA test (antisperm antibodies) is conducted with a Referral issued by the chosen physician, and is covered by the Republic Health Insurance Fund (RHIF). For patients residing outside the city of Belgrade, in addition to the Referral for laboratory testing issued by the chosen physician, it is necessary to provide the First-instance Commitee’s Assessment of consent to perform the requested analyses at “Torlak” Institute.

If the patient does not have a medical referral, the analysis can be performed upon personal request, with payment.

The HALOSPERM test for determining DNA fragmentation degree in spermatozoa and the Spermogram with interpretation are only available upon personal request, with payment at the Institute’s cashier.

The analyses can be scheduled by phone at 011 3953 327, or via email at gblagojevic@torlak.rs and dijagnostika@torlak.rs
